Panalpina nominated by VSB
11/26/2009

Panalpina Brazil has been nominated by VSB, a joint-venture between French Vallourec and Japanese Sumitomo Metals Industries, as the Logistics Operator for 100% of their inbound cargo for their new plant located in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Beyond the freight management, Panalpina will be responsible for track & trace of all cargo and will also handle the national logistics with an in-site team. Additionally Panalpina has been nominated as preferred carrier to perform the ocean charters for their heavy sized cargoes.

Partners for more than 30 years in the oil & gas industry, Vallourec and Sumitomo Metals Industries started construction of an industrial plant with expected investment of USD 1,6 billion.

Under the «VSB Vallourec & Sumitomo Tubos do Brasil» brand, the group expects to become one of the largest steel pipe producers in the world reaching approximately an output of 600,000 tons of steel pipes per year, mainly for the petroleum industry.

«Currently this project is one of three major and complex projects under way in Brazil with several suppliers in different countries. Therefore the partnership with a company with a global presence, experience in managing multiple operations and industries, special visibility and working on reducing costs for customers are vital factors in the choice of Panalpina that differed in these points. We expect the level of service is performed with significant financial gains for our operation», says Luís Guilherme Paschoal Andrade, Project Coordinator – Logistics, at VSB.
